UNICO Scholarship Awards Dinner, May 28

The Waterbury Chapter of UNICO National will hold their 92nd Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner on Tuesday, May 28th at La Bella Vista located at the Pontelandolfo Club on 380 Farmwood Road in Waterbury. Event begins at 6:00pm and the cost is $30.00 per person.  Awards in the amount of $1,000 will be presented to 9 students of Italian-American heritage in recognition of academic excellence and community involvement.  The 2013 recipients are: Kennedy High School students - Arlee Biggins - Nicholas J.

Crosby H.S. in CT Innovation Exposition

Students from Crosby High School in Waterbury are finalizing their projects for the Connecticut Student Innovation Exposition, held by the Center for 21st Century Skills at EDUCATION CONNECTION. Over 2,000 students from 45 middle and high schools across the state will be participating in the Student Innovation Exposition, held on May 4 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

CT Law Firm Joins Driver Safety Campaign

In an effort to make our roads safer this April during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the Law Offices of Carter Mario Injury Lawyers announced that they have joined the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “One Text or Call Could Wreck It All” campaign to stop distracted driving.  Carter Mario Injury Lawyers has pledged their support to help spread the message that distracted drivers are not only a danger to themselves, but everyone else on the road.

Farm Viability Grant for Brass City Harvest

State Senator Joan V. Hartley (D-Waterbury) and Susan Pronovost, Executive Director of Brass City Harvest, today announced the Waterbury-based non-profit organization has been awarded a Farm Viability Grant from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture. Brass City Harvest promotes healthy eating and sustainable agriculture, particularly within low income, high risk local neighborhoods.

State Grant to Revitalize Vacant Parcels

State Senator Joan V. Hartley (D-Waterbury) today announced approval for two state grants to help revitalize dormant parcels in Waterbury. The first will help underwrite remediation and demolition at the brownfield site of the Washington Avenue Business Park, which will be transformed into a mixed-use development. The second will be used to remediate the property at 313 Mill Street after a fire there.
