Calling All Poets
Two poets, Cheryl Della Pelle and Donna Marie Merritt, will be featured at the next meeting of “Calling All Poets... and poetry lovers” at the Silas Bronson Library on Wednesday, March 2, starting at 6:30 p.m. Admission and evening parking are free.
Cheryl Della Pelle is the author of Down to the Waters, a book of poetry that has been described as “elegant, poignant, and memorable” and “a journey into a landscape filled with the sensual, the contemplative, the wisdom of the child’s eyes and a recognition of, and connection with, the conflicting elements within both nature and human nature” by Sandra Bishop Ebner. Della Pelle is an educator, meditation instructor, and master gardener. She owns and operates a one-woman gardening business.
Donna Marie Merritt has written poetry dealing with cancer from the caregiver’s view, job loss, and celebrating life. Her work has appeared in magazines, school reading programs, and a variety of anthologies. She is also the author of two books of poetry, We Walk Together and Her House and Other Poems. Merritt taught at elementary and middle schools for 14 years before devoting herself to writing. Her poetry has been described as resonating “with true realities, giving reasons to see ourselves as we should,” by Lee Bennett Hopkins.
“Calling All Poets” is held regularly on the first Wednesday of the month at the Silas Bronson Library and is hosted by poet, musician, music therapist, and educator Victoria Muñoz. The Silas Bronson Library is the public library of the City of Waterbury. Located at 267 Grand Street, the Library is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturdays from Labor Day to Memorial Day, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. For more information, please visit www.bronsonlibrary.org.
