$10,000 Grant for Salvation Army Emergency Shelter
On Friday, August 17th Teresa D. Carrier, Naugatuck Savings Bank Branch Manager and Sharon Mansfield, Vice President Commercial Lending presented a $10,000 check from the Naugatuck Savings Bank Foundation to Major Annette Lock, a Corps Officer for The Salvation Army’s Waterbury Corps Community Center.
A grant from the foundation was awarded to The Salvation Army’s Waterbury Corps Community Center in support of their Family Emergency Shelter. The funding will help to provide staffing and services that will benefit between 130 and 150 homeless individuals as they move toward self-sufficiency. “Our Foundation has a long history of supporting organizations that make a positive difference in the lives of the people in the communities we serve,” said Chuck Boulier, President of Naugatuck Savings Bank. “We are proud to support The Salvation Army Waterbury Corp’s Community Center to assist with their Family Emergency Shelter.”
The Family Emergency Shelter is located in The Salvation Army’s Corps Community Center on 74 Central Avenue in Waterbury, Connecticut. The Shelter provides safe, temporary housing for homeless families from the Greater Waterbury area. The shelter consists of a 30-bed, nine room facility that operates 24/7, 365 days per year. The goal of the Family Emergency Shelter is to provide the necessary support so that residents do not cycle back through the shelter system, but instead become self-sufficient.
About The Salvation Army - The Salvation Army in Waterbury has been serving the community since 1892, expressing compassionate aid through emergency relief assistance to natural and man-made disasters, emergency welfare assistance, social and character building programs, visitation and pastoral care, residential summer camps for children and senior citizens, missing persons bureau services, holiday assistance, Central P.A.R. K., and the Family Emergency Shelter.
